Blindspot
Our household is officially 80% blind.
Truth be told, the doctor said that Naomi's prescription is so mild that we could take it our leave it (glasses, that is). He said he probably wouldn't bother getting glasses for her if they were going to be costly. They'd help... but very marginally. But then, he also said that even marginal difficulty in reading words (she's farsighted) could correlate to her disinterest in reading. Given that, and the fact that her glasses are basically free with our vision plan, I say... let the fashion show begin!

When I Grow Up
At the end of kindergarten, Justin and Jasmine both participated in the homeschool coop graduation ceremony. Given the option, Naomi decided to skip the fanfare. Since she has always been the child most inclined to avoid a crowd (or... I guess people in general) it was easy to respect and accommodate that request... but we thought it would be cool for her to still make a poster similar to what Justin and Jasmine did to commemorate their entrance to elementary school... simply to detail her interests and ambitions as a six-year-old in a fun way.
The only problem is... without the hard deadline of a coop graduation, this poster became that to-do item that seemingly would never make it off the list. It was supposed to be done months ago. The end of the school year (dang... was that really 5 months ago) would've been nice. But we set a new goal of end-of-summer... which was revised to before graduation. But then graduation also got pushed to a target date of "before your birthday!" We'll, we made that deadline by four days! (thank you, no applause)... But the poster... smh.... that amazingly elusive poster. Never got done.
But here we are, better late than never. Three months past even the latest sell-imposed deadline. But, hey, we got it done before she graduated college and actually chose a career path. For the third child, that's gotta count for something. Yep. We'll accept that parenting award whenever you're ready.

Date Night
So, we're all in the van, driving in town from point A to B, and out of the blue Naomi declares, "I'm going on a date with daddy tonight."
Mommy: You are?
Naomi: Yep.
Mommy: (to daddy) Is that right?
Trying not to look too bewildered, because this is the absolute first I've heard of this, I replied... "Yep."
Naomi grinned from ear to ear, satisfied that I had played along with her impromptu declaration. Even still, I don't think she had an expectation of the joke going beyond that, until later on that evening when I showed up downstairs in a shirt and tie. "Girl, you better get ready... we've got a date tonight!" And so became our first daddy daughter date. She's a bossy little lady, I tell you. Fun date, though.

Green Eggs...
The other day, Naomi and I were driving to the recycle center and out of the blue she asked me, "What's Pam's?" I told her it's a restaurant (that we used to frequent quite a bit, actually) and for about 10 seconds I didn't think much more of the question. My guess was that she had just seen the big red and yellow billboard that we'd just passed, as we've been using that as a marker for where to turn for the recycle center pretty much since we've been in Hartsville. And then it finally clicked... she had seen that sign a hundred times... but she had just read it for the first time! And just like that, a whole new world has opened up to her. The world went from countless meaningless, foreign characters... to meaning. How awesome is that?! Talk about exciting.
And along those lines, to go along with her most recent reading achievement (reading Green Eggs and Home on her own), it was time for Naomi to experience the ceremonious Green Eggs and Ham breakfast (well... green eggs and turkey... because we were kinda out of ham). Truthfully, I had completely forgotten that we'd done this before, but Venesa picked up my slack and took charge on this one. Yay mommy. And Yay, Naomi! Keep up the great work, girl. You're doing an awesome job!! So proud.
